Center Stage Sexual Aid: "ooo" Boutique ‘Feel Me’ condoms

Every other week the CSPH takes a look at a sexual aid that can be just so darn spectacular for some people, that it needs to be highlighted. This week’s sexual aid is “ooo” Boutique Feel Me latex condoms!

How does this contraption work anyway? “ooo” Boutique Feel Me condoms are “exceptionally sheer” (i.e. ultra thin), FDA-approved, lubricated, latex male-condoms. What really sets them apart from other condom brands, however, is their packaging. Their tagline is ‘do it with style” and with their six different varieties of packaging – art of lust (pictured left), passion (pictured right), tryst, try me, take me, and kung fu sutra – you can do just that. They also cater to different personality types and relationships. For instance, the “art of lust” packaging is a little more erotic and tongue-in-cheek than the “passion” packaging. However, none of the boxes scream “CONDOMS!” and could easily be left out on a beside table or dresser without raising any eyebrows.

“ooo” Boutique understands that condoms are an important risk-reduction method, and so they have tailored their packaging to encourage use by making the the experience pleasurable and fun! By having erotic, tongue-in-cheek packaging, they are not only inviting a dialogue around safer sex, but are making it stylish and fun as well!

Like all male condoms, “ooo” Boutique’s Feel Me will be most effective in preventing STIs and pregnancy when used properly. Before opening the condom wrapper, make sure to check the expiration date, and feel for an air bubble. Open the condom using your hands (not your teeth, scissors, or any other sharp objects). Put the condom on the erect penis prior to intercourse. Remember, “pre-cum” fluids released from the penis can cause pregnancy and transmit infections. If you or your partner is uncircumcised, be sure to retract the foreskin before putting the condom on. To put the condom on, make sure the rolled up ring is on the outside (if you put the condom on and realize it’s on the inside, throw it out and start again. Fluids and secretions that are supposed to remain on the inside will now be on the outside of the condom when you flip it over). Make sure there is space at the tip for ejaculate by “pinching” the tip gently as you place it on the head of the penis and roll it down to the base of the penis.

Important things to note: Each condom fits each penis differently (and similarly, feels different to different recipients) so make sure you and your partner try out a few different kinds to determine which fits both of your needs. If a condom is too small, it will break. If it is too big, it could slip off. In both instances, this renders this risk-reduction method ineffective. If you are uncertain of your partners STI status, make sure you get yourself tested. If you are a vagina owner, be sure to back up your birth control.

Do not use oil based lubricants with latex condoms (if you want to use lube – which you should as it will help prevent the condom from breaking, in addition to feeling great! – try water-based or silicone, these are both condom safe!).

Store your condoms in their packs in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sun/florescent light, and storing them for prolonged periods at temperatures above 100 degrees.

Clean up:Make sure you/your partner pulls out slowly right after ejaculation, while the penis is still erect. Hold the condom firmly at the base of the penis to keep it from slipping off while withdrawing. Tie the end to ensure fluids do not leak out, wrap in tissue, and throw out in  a trash can. DO NOT FLUSH THE CONDOM DOWN THE TOILET (unless you want to pay a large plumbing bill).
