Rebecca Alvarez, MSW, LSW, MEd
Rebecca emerged as a fledgling sex educator in 2004 with the women owned-and-run sex shop Babeland in New York City. In 2009, she co-founded ScrewSmart, a Philadelphia-based sex education collaborative that offers sexuality-based workshops, burlesque and drag edutainment. Her research on creating sexual comfort within the medical community as well as Intimate Partner Violence has been presented at sites including the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the TransHealth Conference, and Widener University. She believes that the medical world has much to learn about pleasure-aware care and to this ends, has taught as a Gynecological Teaching Associate and a curriculum developer and facilitator for the American Medical Student Association’s Sexual Health Scholar’s program. Currently, she works as HIV Mental Health Counselor at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Derek Andelloux, M.D.
Dr. Derek Andelloux is a Family Medicine Physician who received his MD from Boston University, and will soon complete his residency training at Brown University/Memorial Hospital of RI in the summer of 2012. He has spent a significant portion of his training focusing on sexual medicine and reproductive issues, and is comfortable counseling patients on diverse and various aspects of male and females sexuality. A lifelong Rhode Islander, he is committed to providing quality healthcare here in the Ocean State.
Brian Flaherty
Brian Flaherty went to Tufts University where misspent the first three years of his college education pursuing an engineering degree before bailing out at the last minute and getting an English degree. He went on to work his way up through the ranks of academic law librarianship despite the conspicuous absence of a law degree. He has worked as a legal reference librarian for over 20 years; given the intersection of his personal and professional interests, he has developed a specialty in researching issues related to sex and the law. In 2006 he helped incorporate Partners in Sex Education, a non-profit in the Greater Boston area dedicated to educating young people in schools, juvenile detention facilities and other youth organizations. He currently works as a librarian at New England Law | Boston, and as director of development and administrative factotum for Partners in Sex Education in Newton.
Aida E. Manduley
Aida received a degree in Gender and Sexuality Studies from Brown University, where she won awards for her leadership and educational work fostering diversity. Originally from Puerto Rico, Aida has also focused her efforts on issues of immigration, digital literacy, and community organizing. Though she is the youngest member on the board, she brings extensive experience and unparalleled passion to the table. In addition to serving The CSPH in multiple capacities, she is also an employee at Sojourner House and the co-chair of the board of directors for the Olneyville Neighborhood Association, an immigrants’ rights non-profit in RI.
Kira Manser, LSW, MEd
Kira Manser started her formal career as a sex educator at Miko, the original feminist run sex shop in Providence, where she helped open the Sexuality Resource Center. She’s worked in many different areas of sexuality, including: directing a high school peer sex-ed program, as a gynecological training associate, facilitating small groups of med students for the Sexual Health Scholars Program, and recently completing a dual degree in social work and education in human sexuality masters program at Widener University. Her labor of love continues to be running the Philadelphia based sex-positive sex education collaborative ScrewSmart, which she has helped build since 2009. She’s currently working on her doctorate to fulfill her dream of being a doctor of sexology, and is working part-time as the LGBT Health and Capacity Trainer for Mazzoni Center. When not working on anything sexuality related she can probably still be found guffawing with the Screws, dancing to pop music, or knitting.
Michelle Forcier, M.D.
Michelle Forcier is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Brown University Alpert Medical School. She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, obtained a Master’s in Public Health and completed a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars fellowship and Preventive Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina. She has been providing adolescent health services, specializing in sexual health care since 1997. She has researched and written on the topic of adolescent and young adult sexual health, with an interest in underserved populations. Her professional background has focused on sexual health issues including: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth with a focus on gender nonconforming youth, puberty blockers and hormones; contraception and advanced family planning; pediatric and adolescent gynecology; and transition medicine for older youth with complex medical problems. She has been involved in medical education and training at Brown University, Northwestern University and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for over 14 years.
Shanna Katz, M.Ed, ACS
Shanna Katz, M.Ed, ACS is a queer kinky disabled femme and board certified sexologist, sexuality educator and professional pervert. She’s using her Master’s of Sexuality Education to provide accessible, open-source sex education to people around the country, and is currently working hard to bring sex education and positivity to the Southwest as well as online. A member of the One Colorado Queer White Allies for Racial Solidarity Caucus, ACS, SSSS, SPECTRA and NCSF, as well as on the board of The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health and The Center for Sex Positive Culture , Shanna is actively involved in work towards equality and social justice for people of all identities. Teaching classes at colleges and universities is one of her favorite ways to expand horizons. She also loves traveling to speak at conferences, toy stores, LGBTQ centers, and more, and co-presenting with her partner on looking at privilege in sexuality education and LGBTQ inclusive medical practices.
Joseph Winn, MSW, LICSW, CST
Joe is an AASECT certified sex therapist and clinical social worker. Joe obtained his Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston University in 1995. He has extensive experience addressing issues related to HIV/AIDS, chemical dependency, violence and trauma. Joe has also developed and taught graduate level social work courses on family therapy and community and home based clinical intervention. For the past nine years, Joe has been involved in full time private practice where he specializes in treating issues related to compulsive sexual behavior, sex therapy and chemical dependency.
Joe maintains a sex positive, GLBTQQI, kink welcoming and affirming psychotherapy practice in Arlington, Massachusetts. Joe has lectured internationally to professional audiences on various sexuality topics. He is a member of NASW, AASECT, SSSS, WPATH and a clinical member of The Society for Sex Therapy and Research.
