Tour The CSPH

Welcome to the CSPH!

As you enter though our doors, you are greeted by the sight of the largest handmade vulva doorframe in America, as well as a plethora of books, pamphlets, journals, and zines.

We have an extensive library covering a wide range of topics. Each section is organized into different categories – e.g. Sex and Aging, Female Sexuality, Male Sexuality, GLBT, Sexual Politics, Pornography, and much, much more! Our collection never stops growing and we are always looking to expand our book collection, so if you know of a good one, send it our way!

To the left we have a portion of our vibrator collection (another collection which is always growing!). We like to support companies which have good ethics and make good products. As such, you will not find a “toxic toy” in this section of the CSPH. While there is nothing for sale at the CSPH, our staff is happy to help you find a toy that suits your needs and direct you where to purchase it. We hope to have a comprehensive list of the toys we have at the CSPH online sometime in 2012.

Here we have our reproductive health display case. It contains different methods of contraception, alternative menstrual products,  different types of emergency contraception, as well as some of the devices used during pelvic exams and pap smears.

The entrance/exit of the CSPH. To the right is the reproductive health display case. To the left is where we used to house our antique vibe collection.

This display case has been dubbed “The island of Misfit Toys” as all of the items inside the case are toxic or potentially harmful to the body for one reason or another. For instance, the case contains anal beads which are attached by a string (good luck cleaning that thoroughly), butt toys without flanges, pussy tightening creme, toys made from jelly latex and other toxic materials, and more. At the CSPH, we want people to be aware of what they are putting in/on their bodies and provide them with resources and alternatives. For more information on sex toy safety, check out our “Intro to Sex Toys” page.

A close up of our Misfit Toys case. On top of the case, we have condoms (both male and female… and are free to take), our collection of paddles (which are not to be used within the CSPH), our pamphlet on lubrication (also free to take), and other miscellaneous items that are fun to look at!

To the right we have the “Island of Misfit Toys” case. To the left we have the sitting area, providing you with the warmth of a 1950s living room as you peruse our various resources. This is also the area where we hold screenings, workshops, and lectures.

Sit back and relax while enjoying one of our books, flipping through one of the vintage magazines, exploring some of our pamphlets and zines, catching up on the latest research in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, or watching a documentary.

The latest addition to the CSPH! The antique vibes display case!

A close ups of the antique vibes (above and below)! More details on the specific vibes as well as a page for the antique vibes coming soon!

The two toys in the boxes to the left are made by Hamilton Beach (think kitchen appliances) and the red toy to the right is made by Oster. The one in the bottom center is hand cranked (no need to recharge or go out to buy batteries!).

The two toys in the center (one is on top of a box, the other in front of… both are behind the pink toy) are also made by Oster.

Here is somewhat of an extension of our Reproductive Health display case… medical devices! We have a collection of speculums, dilators, and kegal exercise balls!

We close our tour with the second portion of our library. This section contains some of the categories previously mentioned (GLBT, Sexual Politics, etc) but also contains historical texts, such as Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* But Were Too Afraid to Askby David Reuben, MD, and many more!
